Hello 4B Families,

I hope you had a restful Fall Break. Here are some important reminders:

  • We are changing classrooms! This will not change the door that students enter and exit the school. The students (and myself) are looking forward to showing you our new learning space during our Parent/Teacher/Student conferences!
  • Parent/Teacher/Student Learning Conferences will be in person at Northern Lights School on November 28 and 29. We ask all families to make time to attend this important conference where teachers will be discussing learning progress to this point in the year. Conferences will be 15-minutes in length. Families will receive an email on November 15 letting them know that they are open for booking now. Once open, parents and guardians must book their own conference time through their MyCBE parent account. (Please use a computer or laptop, not a Smart phone to access your MyCBE account if you are having difficulties.) The conference dates and times are November 28th (4:30 pm to 8:00 pm) and November 29th (9:00 am to 2:00 pm).
  • Please see the important message regarding the Lost and Found on the Northern Lights News for this week.
  • Please see the school messenger I sent regarding multiplication fluency. It is important to practice these now so that we can build on these foundational skills in our math learning this year. 
Here is what we have been up to this short week:

Literacy Stations - They are amazing!
 


Social Studies - We are learning about the Parkland and Grassland regions of Alberta. Yesterday, we used Chromebooks to do some research!
 

Math - Every math class begins with us filling out our multiplication charts!
 


Art - We got to decorate our circles however we want. Next week, we will be doing something special with our circles. 
 

Buddies - We helped our buddies use their Chromebook for the first time! The Gr. 4 students were AMAZING role models!
 

Health - We finished working on the Yellow Zone and Blue Zone posters. We will continue working on them next week.

November 21 – Cobs Treat Day. Orders must be placed through healthyhunger.ca by Sat., November 16
November 25 – SoundKreations Dance Residency begins (There is NO COST to parents for this opportunity thanks to the Casino fundraiser.)
November 28 – Evening Parent / Teacher / Student Learning Conferences
November 29 – NO SCHOOL due to daytime Parent / Teacher / Student Learning Conferences

Hello everyone, Important reminders: May 1st (next Thursday) is PJ Day for 4B! The students showed effort, perseverance and kindness to earn hearts for our class jar. They got to vote between three options and chose PJ Day . Students will be allowed to bring 1 stuffy on this day. As long as their stuffy does not interfere with their or someone else's learning, students can have their stuffies on their desks. Please email me if you are able to volunteer for our upcoming field trip in May. Our class is looking for two more volunteers! Hello 4B Families! Important reminders: Our Family Math Night has been cancelled, as schools are not able to host evening events due to the CUPE Local 40 strike. If plans are made in the future to reschedule, we will communicate details at that time. Thanks for your understanding! Next week, the weather is supposed to be warmer. This will mean that the playground will be slushy and muddy. Please help your child dress in footwear that will keep their feet dry. Running shoes are not the safest or best choice for playing outside in this type of weather. All students (from K-5) should always keep a change of clothes in their backpacks that they can change into if they get wet or muddy. This includes socks, pants, shirts and underwear. Having clothes to change into will ensure they are comfortable and that they classroom is staying clean. Hello everyone, I have the BEST students :) Here is what we have been up to up this week: Writing - We are learning about procedural writing. We practiced writing instructions on our whiteboards about simple things (how to tie your shoelaces, how to build a fort, how to do long division). We then practiced writing in our writing journal.                      Gratitude - We wrote about what makes us smile :) Science - We are learning about static electricity. Ask your child about this! Math - We started learning about long division. We will continue practicing next week. We took a short break from it to learn about collecting data and graphing. As we are moving towards more complex math concepts, it is really important to be fluent with your multiplication facts.          Have a wonderful weekend! Stay warm!
