Happy June,

Important reminders:

  • For our homestead project, we are building a house that is 3D. Please send your child with some cardboard boxes to support them in making their houses. Thank you!!
  • Please send you child with a reusable bag sometime next week. This bag will stay on their coat hooks and will be filled as I begin to hand back student work. The bags will be sent home on the last week of school. 
  • IF YOU ARE MOVING… Please email mlbrinson@cbe.ab.ca if you are moving or if you are changing schools.

Here is what we have been up to this week:

Reader's Theatre - All groups got to present their plays this week. Audience members got to reflect on the plays on their whiteboards.

 

 

 

Math - We are learning about graphs and how we can compare different types of graphs. We started a final project on this (we came up with a question, surveyed our peers) and hope to finish it next week. 
 

 

Animal Research Project - We picked an animal in Alberta and are writing mutliple paragraphs about their diet, habitat, predators and threats, adaptations and structures, and interesting facts. We will continue working on this next week. 
 

 

Social Studies - We learned about homesteads. A long time ago, the government encouraged settlers to come to the west (to Alberta). They gave out free land (called homesteads). Ask your child about this!
 

Games - We took some time to reconnect with each other. 
 

PE outside in the sunshine :)

Buddies - We did chalk art with our buddies. Everyone's creativity was on display!
 

 


Nose Creek Band Performance - Students from Nose Creek came to perform a few songs for us. We were interested in this and wondered if this is something we can pursue in a couple of years.

June 20 – 9:15 am – Volunteer Tea for our volunteers. (If you volunteered this year and would like to attend, please RSVP to Mrs. Brinson if you haven’t already by Thursday, June 12 at the latest.)
June 25 – Report Cards open to parents via their MyCBE accounts (The last day to view or download your child’s report card is July 25.)
June 25 – 9:30 am - Play Day activities for Grades 1-5
June 26 – Last day of school for Grades 1-5 (Please note: This is a 1:05 dismissal day. There is no school in the afternoon.)

Hello everyone, Important reminders: May 1st (next Thursday) is PJ Day for 4B! The students showed effort, perseverance and kindness to earn hearts for our class jar. They got to vote between three options and chose PJ Day . Students will be allowed to bring 1 stuffy on this day. As long as their stuffy does not interfere with their or someone else's learning, students can have their stuffies on their desks. Please email me if you are able to volunteer for our upcoming field trip in May. Our class is looking for two more volunteers! Hello 4B Families! Important reminders: Our Family Math Night has been cancelled, as schools are not able to host evening events due to the CUPE Local 40 strike. If plans are made in the future to reschedule, we will communicate details at that time. Thanks for your understanding! Next week, the weather is supposed to be warmer. This will mean that the playground will be slushy and muddy. Please help your child dress in footwear that will keep their feet dry. Running shoes are not the safest or best choice for playing outside in this type of weather. All students (from K-5) should always keep a change of clothes in their backpacks that they can change into if they get wet or muddy. This includes socks, pants, shirts and underwear. Having clothes to change into will ensure they are comfortable and that they classroom is staying clean. Hello everyone, I have the BEST students :) Here is what we have been up to up this week: Writing - We are learning about procedural writing. We practiced writing instructions on our whiteboards about simple things (how to tie your shoelaces, how to build a fort, how to do long division). We then practiced writing in our writing journal.                      Gratitude - We wrote about what makes us smile :) Science - We are learning about static electricity. Ask your child about this! Math - We started learning about long division. We will continue practicing next week. We took a short break from it to learn about collecting data and graphing. As we are moving towards more complex math concepts, it is really important to be fluent with your multiplication facts.          Have a wonderful weekend! Stay warm!
